Intermediate Network Engineer/Specialist, Shipboard Networking Team

Weir Marine Engineering, LaSalle location

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing detailed and methodical test plans and scenarios;
  • Conducting tests and technical evaluations of IT and networking equipment in a lab environment, both for new systems and for changes to existing systems;
  • Coordination of the deployment of tested/approved configurations on client production networks;
  • Management, auditing and review of hardware/software baselines and configurations;
  • Investigation and assessment of technical impacts of proposed changes to complex networks;
  • Review of technical documentation and preparation of comments;
  • Preparation of technical documentation, including test reports, investigation reports and configuration/installation procedures; and
  • Technical support to clients and other team members in areas such as switching/routing, LAN and WAN connectivity, quality of service, DNS, IP telephony, web caching, etc.

Core qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Expertise and experience (3+ years) with routing topologies and protocols, namely OSPF, EIGRP, BGP and MLPPP, in complex (mainly Cisco) environments;
  • Expertise and experience (3+ years) with Cisco IOS in both routers and switches;
  • Expertise and experience (3+ years) with Layer 2 switching, including expertise in VLANs;
  • Expertise and experience (5+ years) with TCP/IP and related technologies (e.g. DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMTP, HTTP, FTP, etc.);
  • Familiar with Windows 2000 Professional/Windows XP, Windows 2000/2003 Server/Active Directory, Exchange 2000/2003;
  • Strong trouble-shooting and fault-finding skills;
  • Excellent English written and oral communication abilities, with previous experience in preparing technical documentation (configuration guides, test reports, investigation reports);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to work independently as well as with a dispersed team; and
  • Customer-focused, proactive and responsive – with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, time management and multitasking abilities.

Educational Requirements (minimum):

University degree in Computer Science or Engineering and five or more years relevant experience; OR Two-year College level certificate in Computer Science and six or more years relevant experience; OR Successful completion of an intensive IM/IT course of 600 or more hours of instruction and assignments, and six or more years relevant experience; OR ten or more years relevant work experience.

Junior Buyer/ Purchasing agent, FFS Section

Weir Marine Engineering, LaSalle location

Major duties and responsibilities:

Under general surpervision, performs purchasing activities including negotiating of contracts for products and services. The duties listed below are example of work typically performed by employee in this class.

  • Review, process requisition and prepare purchase orders;
  • Generate periodic reports on products and suppliers with regular shipment delays;
  • Coordinate with storesman for shipments of rush orders;
  •  Follow up with suppliers regarding past due orders and outstanding RFQs;
  • Update supervisor on all rushes and past dues on regular basis;
  • Vendor research and evaluation;
  • Participate in quoting activities, including RFQ and quote generation;
  • Interact with the suppliers to find replacements for obsolete products;
  • Take proactive measures to avoid delays in shipments; and
  • Assist in the inventory control and participate in the development and maintenance of inventory system.

Qualification and skills required:

  • Ability to working under pressure and meet firm deadlines;
  • Proficient in MS Excel & Word (Access/database experience is desirable);
  • Strong written and oral communication;
  • Strong customer focus; and
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills.

Experience & Education:

  • 3 or 4 year Business/Commercial Studies Degree or 3-year Purchasing Diploma preferred;
  • Experience in customer service or an external customer-oriented environment; and
  • Experience with purchasing and/or expediting is desirable.
