Thermal Imaging
Application & Overview
Marine Engineering provides infra-red thermal imaging services for many applications. Our most powerful system that is equipped with two Phoenix thermal imagers from Indigo Systems (now FLIR) produces impressive results from great distances in various airborne and land-based applications. Combined with 60/180/500mm Three Field-Of-View lenses, these cameras can distinguish 5 x 5 cm surfaces one kilometre away. Using a camera mount which is pre-certified for use in certain commercial helicopters, this equipment is well suited for the control of forest fires, search and surveillance, and power line surveys. Using professional broadcast quality DV recorders, imager video can be recorded throughout a mission. GPS receiver data is also recorded and the use of a laser range finder allows the designation of points on the ground without having to fly over.
Smaller hand-held cameras are available for equipment health monitoring surveys in industrial settings, including surveys of electrical and mechanical equipment to identify “hot spots” that can be caused by factors such as faulty wiring and electrical contacts, worn bearings, improper lubrication, etc.
