Emissions Measurements

Application & Overview

In-situ measurements of emissions, including common air contaminants to verify the performance of pollution abatement systems and demonstrate compliance with applicable regulations.

Capabilities

Our equipment is EPA compliant and fully portable, with heated sample lines, pumps and sample conditioners that allow samples to be drawn from up to 30 metres from an emissions source.  Our sample probe assembly can be adapted to almost any emissions source.  We have complete engineering, drafting, and machining capability should any special adaptors be required.

All our test equipment is calibrated under our ISO 9001 Quality Management System, and Marine Engineering is specifically certified under ISO 17025 by the Standards Council of Canada to measure gaseous emissions according to the ISO 8178 standard; and total particulates according to ISO 9096.  Measured parameters include:

  • Oxygen (O2)
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO)
  • Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx)
  • Oxides of Sulphur (SOx)
  • Total Hydrocarbons (THC)
  • Particulate Matter (PM)

In addition, WME ensures that all necessary associated data is obtained using suitable techniques and recognized standards.  This includes detailed analysis of fuel used in internal combustion engines, air flow, temperature, humidity, etc.

Past work has included emissions measurements from stationary diesel engines, gas turbines, and waste incinerators; as well as measurements from diesel engines and gas turbines in active marine vessels while underway.

Standards & Methods Tested
  • ISO 8178-2 Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines – Exhaust Emissions Measurement Part 2
  • ISO 9096 Stationary Source Emissions – Manual Determination of Mass Concentration of Particulate Matter
  • EPA Method 201A – Determination of PM10 Emissions
  • EPA Method 201B – Determination of PM2.5 Emissions
